Case Studies

The Days

Leanne Day lives in, Castletown, an area of Sunderland in Tyne and Wear. The property is a two-bedroom house built by Gentoo Housing Association. She is 26 and lives with her three-year old daughter Talullah. They have been in the property, which they rent, for two and a half years.

She is delighted with her property. It was brand new when she moved in and is cheap to run because It is well-insulated and has solar panels. The property comes with a back garden and a garage. The backdoor is level access with no steps, so as a toddler there was little chance of Talullah falling and hurting herself.

 Why a Lifetime Home?

When she moved in, the kitchen, bathroom and downstairs toilet were in place and she didn’t require any adaptations. She has decorated and made the place her own, including easy to clean flooring downstairs – ideal for a busy toddler!Living rooms with a bright stripey wall in red, green and white

Leanne says “The downstairs toilet a great help when you are potty-training a child”. The level entry into the property is very helpful for coming in with a child in a pushchair. Upstairs, Talullah’s room is full of toys for cooking and playing doctors and hairdressers.

She loves the ease of movement between the car and the house – the level access and wide doors. “When you’ve got a little baby in a car seat or a pram, you’ve got the shopping, toys dropping everywhere, being able to get in and out easily is great.”

Supporting their lifestyle

Leanne has family nearby and grew up in the area. A bus stop nearby means an easy ride into town and there are also shops close by. On either side are couples in their 60s who keep an eye on the place if she is away.

Now that Tallulah has started nursery, Leanne has applied for a new job just around the corner. She plans to stay in the property for the foreseeable future as it is a lovely home for her daughter to grow up in.
