Lifetime Homes and Consultation

Over the last few months Habinteg has co-ordinated a review of the Lifetime Homes criteria. This has involved talking to a cross-section of experts, including developers, architects, access consultants, planners, occupational therapists and policymakers. The feedback we received identified some proposed changes to the Lifetime Homes criteria, in order to make them easier to understand and to enable them to be adopted by the full range of housing developers.

A number of the criteria have therefore been revised and the changes are now published for consultation, in parallel with the wider consultation on the Code for Sustainable Homes. This Lifetime Homes consultation exercise is separate from the CLG consultation on the Code for Sustainable Homes and the Lifetime Homes Foundation will be submitting its own response to that document.

Andy Shipley, Lifetime Homes Co-ordinator, commented:

“We are pleased to be able to publish this consultation and invite scrutiny and comment from all those with an interest in Lifetime Homes. The proposed revisions in the consultation represent a great deal of time and effort on the part of a number of committed individuals who participated in our review and to whom we are very grateful. The revisions should assist developers in building homes that meet the needs of people, now and in the future.”

The Lifetime Homes consultation 2009-10  is posted on the Lifetime Homes website.

Feedback on the Lifetime Homes consultation should be submitted by 15th March 2010.

We intend to publish the revised Lifetime Homes criteria in June 2010.
