Barratt Green House

The Barratt Green House is a three/four bedroom family house designed to provide a solution to the needs of low energy, high density volume housing of the future. It is a direct response to the government’s target of zero carbon housing by 2016, and includes Lifetime Homes criteria.
Design and Construction
The Barratt Green House was design by Gaunt Francis Architects as part of an open competition, and was selected by public vote through the Mail on Sunday as the design for “the Home of the Future”. The design is supported by the National Centre for Excellence in Housing and the Building Research Establishment (BRE) and Barratt North London Division is implementing the house on “Innovation Park” as a test construction at the BRE’s headquarters at Garston, near Watford.
The Barratt Green House is designed as a 130m2 (1400 sq ft) three storey, three/four bedroom family home, including through living-dining-kitchen space; downstairs cloakroom; games/play room; home office; family bathroom; and ensuite to the main bedroom of the three provided. All rooms are serviced from a central hallway, which starts from the front door and covered carport area and terminates at the second floor external terrace. In addition to being a family home, the Barratt Green House is also designed to achieve the government’s Code for Sustainable Homes (CfSH) Level 6, the Treasury’s Stamp Duty Exemption definition of ‘zero carbon’, and an Energy Performance Certificate rating of A (part of the domestic Home Information Pack).
